Peony Jade, Singapore — Clarke Quay

Peony Jade, Singapore — Clarke Quay

Peony Jade at Clarke Quay is introducing a brand new Red Hot Chilli Crabbers 5 course set lunch that is available daily. As the name suggests, the highlight would definitely be the Singapore’s favorite wok-fried chilli crab! It is priced at $138.80++/2 pax (minimum 2 to dine), available daily. Here’s what you can find in the set lunch:

TRIOLOGY OF DIMSUM COMBINATION
龙须虾卷,京式饺子,鱼子蒸烧卖

Kick start the sumptuous set lunch with a trio of delicately made dimsum. Be assured of quality when you dine at Peony Jade because you can taste the fresh and plump prawns in each piece. The steamed shiu mai had a thin skin that gently envelopes the chunks of filling on the inside. The poached shrimp dumpling is cooked in a hot and sour broth which tickled my tastebuds with its stronger flavors, which is similar to 紅油抄手 (spicy wantons). Lastly, the pan seared prawn in a golden brown filo wrap had a light and nice crisp drizzled with a refreshing passion fruit sauce. I was afraid that the dimsum would fill my stomach way too fast but the well execution by the Chefs did not make me feel stuffed at all!

CHOICE OF 1 TYPE OF CRAB
WOK FRIED CHILLI CRAB

BLACK PEPPER CRAB

WHITE PEPPER CRAB

We Singaporeans love our crabs (especially chilli ones) don’t we? Peony Jade offers three local favorite flavors — chilli, black pepper and white pepper. I loved the quality of crab that is used with the thick and fleshy crab meat within those sturdy shells. For the sauce, I thought the chilli crab was excellent with a nice balance between the tangy tomato sauce and heat from the chilli. However, the white pepper really stood out for me. White pepper isn’t a usual flavor that my family would order when we dine, but I would recommend the one at Peony Jade! It is creamy, milky, peppery and what I liked was the bits of crab roe that is in the sauce too! Apart from just being peppery, I could taste the crustacean flavor which adds sweetness to it. The black pepper was great too — bold and peppery! It ultimately boils down to your own personal preference and the white pepper gets my vote!

SAUTEED BEEF FILLET WITH HONG KONG KALE

As with all Chinese meals, we need to have some vegetables to balance out the meal. Fresh and bright green kailan is stir fried with a generous amount of tender sauteed beef fillet. Even the vegetable course is so satisfying with all that beef!

SZECHUAN SPICY DAN DAN NOODLES

Being a Szechuan/Cantonese restaurant, how can there be no mala? The brown based sauce can look deceiving but mala spices are also added into it with minced pork. It is topped with scallions and cucumbers. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of mala so this dish wasn’t to my liking.

MANGO PUREE

After all that crabs and mala flavors going on in your tummy, it would be more than perfect to cool down with a bowl of chilled mango pomelo puree with sago pearls. The smooth taste and consistency of the puree made us polished it off in no time!

The Red Hot Chilli Crabbers also comes with a glass of Singapore Sling, a gin-based cocktail with pineapple and lime juice. The tastefully decorated modern Chinese restaurant is a great place to gather with your friends and family, or even hold your business luncheons. If you are looking for a restaurant to have a nice lunch, why not choose Peony Jade which uses quality ingredients and delivers food of high standards?
